Golf Club of Indiana in great Shape.

By admin

It’s been 4 years since my last visit to GCI, and this trip made me a believer in spending the $4.00 gas to drive around the 465 bend to replay this course.  First, Indiana has been hit with a significant amount of rain, and this course seemed to move and divert the rain so that the course was in playable conditions.  The superintendent did what I expected and made “cart path” only to keep the integrity of the fairways and rough.  The greens on Sunday were the best I played in Indiana to date.  Not only could you ready the greens but they had consistent speed.  In fact, I made a few 10 footers (1 putt) which came from reading the break.
One of the surprising actions of the course was the installation of the new GPS system which I found to be state of the art in distance and location.  Typically in Indiana we search fairways for any distance marker like a squirrel on the last day of fall looking for that last nut.  This GPS system was not only on the money for distance but helped increase speed of play.
So with excellent greens, above average fairways (rain considering) and speed of play, I would highly recommend those who haven’t played Golf Club of Indiana to make the short trip north of 465 and give this course a reunion for golfing this summer.

I haven’t personally encountered the GPS systems either, but I read about them when researching some info on Vegas courses. Gotta love technology. ;)

Now you can even get an application to run on an Apple 3G iPhone, which you can use as your on course golf GPS device.

Maybe one day all cell phones will have this too?
